• 1710 The Royal-Polish and Electoral-Saxon Porcelain Manufactory, the first European porcelain manufactory founded by Augustus the Strong by decree on 23 January, begins operations at the Albrechtsburg in Meissen under the direction of Johann Friedrich Böttger.
• 1907 By means of an advertisement in the Düsseldorfer Zeitung, Henkel is the first to offer households the detergent Persil for purchase. The brand name, however, can only be registered around ten years later. From the outset, the product is sold only in its original box and not as loose goods.
• 1931 The Glass Palace in Munich burns down completely. More than 3000 paintings, including the 110 exhibits from the special exhibition Deutsche Romantiker, are irrecoverably destroyed, and a further 1000 works are partially severely damaged.
