• 1193 After Emperor Henry VI had contractually undertaken to release the captive Richard the Lionheart only against payment of a ransom and fulfillment of other conditions, the Austrian Duke Leopold V hands him over in Speyer; the emperor transfers him to Trifels Castle.
• 1882 Paul Beiersdorf is granted the patent for the manufacture of coated plaster. This is regarded as the founding date of Beiersdorf AG.
