• 1241 In Silesia, the Golden Horde achieves a crushing victory at the Battle of Liegnitz over a German-Polish army of knights under Piast Duke Henry the Pious, who is killed in the battle. Despite the victory, however, the Mongols do not advance any further into Europe.
