• 1799 The French Revolution ends: On the day after the coup of 18 Brumaire VIII and the overthrow of the Directory, Napoleon Bonaparte is appointed First Consul. The other two members of the Consulate are Emmanuel Joseph Sieyès and Roger Ducos.
• 1885 Between Cannstatt and Untertürkheim, the first test drive takes place with the horse-drawn carriage constructed by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, a predecessor of the motorcycle.
• 1918 November Revolution: The former German Emperor Wilhelm II goes into exile in the Netherlands. The Workers' and Soldiers' Councils in Berlin confirm the Council of People's Representatives, formed by the SPD and USPD, as the new government of the German Reich.
• 1928 The Vossische Zeitung in Berlin begins with the advance publication of Erich Maria Remarque's novel All Quiet on the Western Front. Its circulation rises rapidly, and the newspaper comes out of the red.
• 1969 Sesame Street is broadcast for the first time in the USA.
• 1974 In Berlin, Kammergericht President Günter von Drenkmann is shot and seriously injured after a scuffle with criminals who broke into his home, and dies in hospital. The terrorist organization 2 June Movement claims responsibility for the attack. The perpetrators remain unidentified.
• 1979 The first championship final in the history of American football in Germany takes place. The Frankfurt Löwen defeat the Ansbach Grizzlies 14:8 in the German Football League.
• 1983 Student Fred Cohen presents the world's first computer virus on a Unix system at the University of Southern California.
• 1988 Bundestag President Philipp Jenninger delivers a speech before parliament on the anniversary of the November pogroms of 1938. Critical reactions to the commemorative speech lead to Jenninger's resignation the following day.
• 1989 On the day after the surprising announcement of freedom of travel and the resulting opening of the Berlin Wall, millions of East German citizens visit West Berlin and the cities near the border in the Federal Republic.
• 2004 The value of the euro exceeds 1.30 US dollars for the first time and trades at 1.3005 US dollars, its highest level since its introduction in 1999.
• 2020 The Microsoft Xbox Series game consoles are released worldwide.
