• 1519 Spanish conquest of Mexico: The Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés reaches the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlán and is welcomed with great ceremony by Moctezuma II.
• 1887 Emil Berliner is granted the Imperial Patent for his sound reproduction device with a rotating gramophone record. After the turn of the century, the gramophone increasingly replaces Thomas Alva Edison's cylinder phonograph.
• 1895 Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovers X-rays.
• 1923 Hitler-Ludendorff Putsch: Adolf Hitler, together with Erich Ludendorff, Hermann Göring, and other National Socialists, occupies the Bürgerbräukeller in Munich and proclaims that the “national revolution” has broken out and the national government of the Weimar Republic has been deposed.
