• 1775 Johann Wolfgang von Goethe arrives in Weimar at the invitation of the Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, Carl August.
• 1917 (October 25 according to the Julian calendar) The October Revolution begins in Petrograd with a signal shot fired from the cruiser Aurora.
